Overview & Projections
As winter weather advisories appear from the Northeast, through the Midwest, and into the Central United States this week, it’s crucial to keep a close watch on conditions. Following the holiday week, capacity is expected to replenish over the next couple of weeks.
Southern California, Arizona, Florida, and South Texas will be the most active areas for produce shipments, and carriers are likely to take advantage of this as the month progresses. The transition to Southern California and Arizona is nearly complete, and shippers are catching up. This should lead to improved loading times and better coverage.
Similarly, fall commodities are declining in the Midwest, leading to comparable trends. On a positive note, capacity is also improving in the Pacific Northwest, presenting a good opportunity to secure reliable carriers in this demanding market.
Arizona
Carriers are starting to head this direction for freight. As loading times improve, it will benefit the area.
California (Northern)
Carrier market will enhance as product moves south. This will bring better opportunities to secure reliable carriers.
California (Southern)
As the week progresses and more carriers get back on the road, freight prices should drop.
Carolinas
Will mimic the Georgi market until carriers get back to the east side. Spotty coverage at the moment.
Eastern United States
Give it a few days and the market will upgrade. Early in the week will be slightly more demanding. Weather can play a factor as well.
Florida (Northern)
Florida and Georgia can take more effort. Moderately tight conditions until inbound carriers can move back into these areas.
Florida (Southern)
Coverage can still be tricky. Volumes are starting to increase, which can lead to market shifts.
Georgia
Florida and Georgia can take more effort. Moderately tight conditions until inbound carriers can move back into these areas.
Idaho
It will help that Washington and Oregon are strengthening but the area can still present higher costs.
Midwest
Winter weather is hurting transit times and capacity levels. Expect higher rates until weather conditions improve.
New York
Expect tougher conditions upstate. Carriers will be moving slower than usual. Local runs will get pricey.
Oregon/Washington
An improved market this week. Spot rates will shift day to day but expect capacity to be stronger than usual.
Texas
South Texas and Dallas are consistently tighter than all other areas. Produce moving across the southern border is elevating shipment levels.
