Overview & Projections
The market remains highly vulnerable to day-to-day weather fluctuations, meaning any immediate issues could cause significant turbulence. While January has seen another week of decent conditions, we are monitoring potential winter storms that may develop mid-week in the Northeast. Beyond the weather, post-holiday capacity constraints and elevated rates persist, with challenging market conditions in the Southwest making it very difficult to secure coverage for long-haul shipments. Additionally, uncertainty regarding regulations for non-domiciles drivers is limiting capacity in several areas as drivers await clearer Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration guidance.
.
Arizona
Spot rates remain inflated. Won’t notice any changes until driver shortages shift in a positive direction.
California (Northern)
Within the state it’s the best area to secure coverage. Weather is clearing up and load volumes are down.
California (Southern)
Anticipate higher rates to continue. Team rates and multi picks will cost a premium.
Carolinas
North Carolina is the better market of the two. South Carolina isn’t terrible but may be tighter in Central parts.
Eastern United States
East coast rates are riding and will remain higher than usual. Potential winter storms mid-week heading to the Northeast.
Florida (Northern)
Savannah and Atlanta are the only area that can’t take more effort. Outside of that, Florida and Georgia are gaining strength.
Florida (Southern)
Availability is steady and reliable carriers are present. Expect this to persist in January.
Georgia
Savannah and Atlanta are the only area that can’t take more effort. Outside of that, Florida and Georgia are gaining strength.
Idaho
Area is very difficult, and rates will continue to elevate. Carrier options will be minimal with steep pricing.
Midwest
Stability is on the horizon. Wisconsin and Chicago are trying to recover. Review rates day to day as fluctuations can still arise.
New York
Upstate New York is limited, and weather can affect coverage and transit times. Work ahead if possible.
Oregon/Washington
Oregon is starting to improve, while Washington could use some help near Spokane. Consistent with last week and weather is reasonable.
Texas
Demanding market week to week. All areas remain challenging outside of Austin.
