EFS Refrigerated Freight Report

Overview & Projections

Heading into this week, market conditions remain balanced. Although tender rejections have declined week-over-week, we expect to see an increase in holiday produce shipments this week and into the next, with California likely to experience the most significant fluctuations.

With a mild peak season projected, leveraging outbound tender lead times to secure quality carriers will be mutually beneficial. Clear communication regarding future loads, product readiness, carrier availability, and consistent pricing will contribute to positive outcomes.

It is also worth noting that diesel prices are continuing to rise, which is a key factor to monitor during peak season. Any future growth in trucking activity could push rates higher.

Arizona

Produce quantities continue to grow. Talking with shippers about product availability can aid detention costs.

California (Northern)

California can get tricky with this time of year. Central California will fluctuate & bring volatility to the market.

California (Southern)

Similar to Central California. Anticipate rates to increase at the end of this week into next week. Team rates will elevate for weekend shipments.

Carolinas

Availability is scattered but will be able to find better rates early in the week.

Eastern United States

Anticipate port volumes to pick up in November and December, especially in New Jersey. Pennsylvania is providing stable conditions and will be slightly better than New Jersey.

Florida (Northern)

Georgia and Northern Florida are gaining coverage. Cold weather last week may have affected product quantities. Both areas will be stable.

Florida (Southern)

Typically, a stronger market in November, yet capacity can’t gain full strength.

Georgia

Georgia and Northern Florida are gaining coverage. Cold weather last week may have affected product quantities. Both areas will be stable.

Idaho

Limited capacity is still a factor. Expect this to continue until Washington, Oregon, and Utah stabilize.

Midwest

Wisconsin, Chicago, Central Indiana, and Western Michigan are becoming difficult. If possible, work ahead this week and next.

New York

Market movement is occurring day to day upstate. As the holidays approach, expect higher rates.

Oregon/Washington

Produce and Christmas tree volumes are increasing. Freight demand will rise in the rest of November. Challenging market right now.

Texas

South Texas produce volumes will increase this week. Dallas and South Texas will yield the highest rates.
